Couldn't find anything specific but does anyone know is this a fairly straight forward job? Any tricks I should know about in advance?

 

Very straight forward, easy job.

Take the belt off, unclip the wire, and few bolts and it will come right out.

 

Dont replace it with a crappy autozone/orilieys rebuild. You will just end up doing the job again soon. If the one thats on there is the factory toyota one, have it rebuilt.

Replaced mine in under 30mins. as other posters have said very easy 2 bolts and plug on alternator.

 

Remember to disconnect the negative battery cable no need for unneeded fireworks.

Maybe time for a new belt as well.

Additionally, for a bit more oomph the 95-96 Jaguar XJS alternator is a direct drop in. This is the best prices I've found.

Upgrade Amps need upgrade wire!!

 

Only if your drawing the extra current all the time .

Also the circuit protection needs to be addressed as well if not you will open the protection when your demand exceeds the factory limits.

Although it never hurts to upgrade the electrical systems on these trucks

 

Also, if you buy a factory Toyota alternator or are manufactured with Toyota Warranty like Toyota Parts Zone sells, make sure you keep your old Toyota alt for core refund.
After-market alt will not qualify for core refund for Toyota-Warrantied alts.

 

im looking into the jag upgrade those cars had two motors in it 4.0L and the big v12 6.0L which motor and they also came with bosch and nippendenso alternators?

 

4.0l, but I believe they both had the same

Thanks man ! I had a 1st gen with the gm 1wire swap and was the best upgrade I did running winch and lights all at the same time
