99 4Runner shakes when taking off in 1st Gear and Reverse- Suggestions?
#2
I know that first and reverse share the same clutch band. Mine takes about half of a second to shift into either from park or neutral. I was once younger and way dumber than I am now.
I'm pretty sure it's the deepest band and drum in the transmission case. You might wanna give that a look.

Okay, if you hold down the brake pedal firmly and accelerate the engine to about 1500rpm IN GEAR, does it still shake? Doing this will help you a lot as far as trying to figure out whether this is an engine problem or a transmission/driveline problem. If it shakes without the vehicle even moving, then you more than likely have a misfire issue.

Damn. I thought there would be more here. A misfire would also come up at cruising speed, probably going uphill. I once had a tough to diagnose misfire on a mustang with a 3.0. Turned out to be a cracked plug. It would only do it just above 45 after the torque convertor locked up.
