Adjustable shock question

Adjustable shock question
I have adjustable shocks on my 89 runner and was wondering what they should be set on for novice trails and sand dunes ? They can be adj. from 1 (Soft) to 6 ( stiff ) I have them set at 4 for the streets and feels good.
