changing motor mounts best way/place to jack up motor

Hello , I have a 92 pickup with the 22re motor I am going to be changing the motor mounts on it , can anybody tell me the best way/place to jack up the motor a little ? I don't have a hoist so ill have to jack it up from the bottom I've heard people have done it by putting a jack under the oil pan [ with a board between jack and pan] but nobody has said if this will hurt pan etc. I don't want to hurt the pan. if you guys can let me know how you did it that would be a great help , thanks

ok thanks , wasn't sure if it would hurt the pan or not I was even told that I could put a piece of wood under the harmonic balancer and lift it that way but a little iffy on that one.

Over the years I have done both as well as picked it with a Engine Crane

Just be real careful with things at the back of the engine .

Good idea to have someone watching as you lift if possible.

Got the motor mounts and the trans. mount all changed thanks to my son! I would have had a hell of a time by my self. ended up easily jacking it up by the balancer he said he has done that a few times and as long as you take it easy it would be ok .Thanks for the input guys !

honestly? if you have a cherry picker ( motor crane ) you can just wrap a chain around in the engine bay. tense it up, undo the motor mounts, lift it slightly, replace the mounts, and drop it back down. done.
