I'd like some help to determine how I handle the body repair work on my truck. I have a 1994 22re 4X4 extended cab. I've attached some pictures of my truck and the new front section I took from a 1993 V6 4Runner. There are some differences, and I'd like your opinions on which options make most sense.

The 22re doesn't have an A/C condenser fan but the 4Runner does. Would you recommend I just remove the fan to cut down on reduced airflow through the radiator, or can you help me learn how to hook up the electrical connections (if possible)? There appear to be 3 electrical connections (the fan, the drier and what may be a thermostat near the bottom of the A/C condenser).

The 22re has the power steering lines running in front of the A/C condenser, while the 4Runner doesn't. The A/C drier is also in a different location, making it more challenging to run the power steering lines in front of the condenser. How do you recommend I handle this?

I was going to add more pictures but was limited to 3. If you'd like closeups of anything, just let me know. I'd appreciate all the input you can offer.

No one really has a idea just what your trying to do I know I don`t.

Just what is your end goal??

The only real differences I think are due to the different engines.

Just source the new parts for your year and engine .

Something like this is all most impossible from pictures.

What is still able to be used from your old front clip??

 

The old front end had no A/C fan, so there is no power there in the harness. I want to run wires to connect these three components, so the fan will work, but I'd need to know which wires get power all the time, which only when the ignition is on, which only when the A/C is running, which are grounds and just how the 3 components connect with each other. Tell me what else you need, and I'll provide it for you.

 

The fans were only on 4 Runners because there AC system was larger to compensate for the larger cab.
You don't need the fan if your worried, But if you do want it, It is run by another set of relays and harness that hangs off the side of the engine compartment fuse box.

This diagram is for 95-97 but the condenser fan relay wiring on the right side of it is the same for all 90-95 4R.

Suggest get the whole relay harness, Its easy to remove and most most junkyard 2 gen 4Runners have it.
If you don't you make a single speed version with a 30 amp fuse holder and a 30 amp rated relay.
Like the diagram above.
1. AC clutch wire splice the relay (primary)--ground
2. Battery--fuse--relay (secondary)--resistor (this is optional for low speed (suggested) or just don't use the resistor for high speed)--condenser fan motor--ground.

 

Thank you. I think I'll just remove the fan and disconnect the other two plugs. How do you recommend I install the power steering cooling line? The A/C drier is in the way.

 

The normal PS cooling lines run under the engine fan for 3vz, Im not even sure your picture is normal location for 22re.

 

Unfortunately, this is all irrelevant, at this point, as I discovered the frame is bent. It's been a great truck, but I guess I'll have to buy someone else's headache and hope it has been maintained. Thanks for the help.

 

Depends just how bad most frame shops can pull it so you can get a alignment done.

Most times pretty reasonable .

You give up to easy . But your the one making decisions .

I've definitely not given up easy, or inexpensively. When I attempted to attach the new front end, I discovered the left mount was almost 2" back and then noticed the left tire was 4" back. The bend is at the rear of the wheel well and would require the engine to be removed to access it. I don't see how this could be repaired for less than $1000. This is the second time a drunk took me out on that side, so I think the frame is getting a bit weak there. Don't assume people give up easily unless you see what they have actually done.

 

If your 2wd truck is a mini truck/US made/not hilux spec front end, the fan will only fit if you trim away from your current grill. There have been previous posts (here adn/or minitruck forum) but I'll let you do the searching.

 

I don't have a 2WD truck. I've replaced this totaled 22RE 4X4 with a 1997 4X4 extended cab Toyota 2.7 Tacoma.
