Ok, came to the pros. I have a 2000 Limited 4Runner with a crashed rear end. Bought a 1997 rear hatch (Tailgate) went on fine but, the wiring harness is different. Both have a white and grey harness, but the white on the 1997 is a 10 pin and the 2000 is a 4 pin. The 97 also has 6 wires versus the 4 on the 2000. The grey is a 10 pin on both but, the wire colors are totally different. I cannot use any of the parts from the 2000 as they were all damaged in the accident. They do not have matching wire colors (see below pics, all 2000 harness pics have the brown leather background). Thank you so much in advance for your help, I am frustrated to no end on this.

Get copies of the 2000 4Runner and the 97 4Runner EWD`s the only way to sit down and figure it out.

Repin the 97 harness to work on the 2000

You could even sit down with a meter and figure it out.

Do you still have access to the old tailgate you can see what color wires go where
