Selling the 87 4runner need advice on a 3rd Gen 4runner

So it's time to get rid of the old 87 4runner 22re 5speed and upgrade to a 3rd gen. I am a noob when it comes to anything post 96'. My research tells me that some say that the best is the 99/00 because you can have both the center locking diff and the e locker (maybe just the 00 not sure) but the 99 has the taller springs. I would be doing some mild 4 wheeling, it does snow where I live, and I want something that would be a good platform if I decided to make it more 4 wheeling capable. I'm not a fan of auto transmissions and would prefer a 5 speed, but I don't know if having the limited auto tranny with the center locking diff is worth giving up a 5-speed with the rear e locker. I also am not a fan of the fat bumper on the newer ones. So what do you guys think?

center diff isn't till 2001. My cousin and good friend both have 97 4runners. one is at 240k miles and the other is at 300k and just recently blew the headgasket.

personally, I like the 1st gens the most. most aftermarket support, combined with the most unique setup.

I could be wrong, but I did read that on the 00's the limited's came with the center diff and as an option 00' was the last year of the e-locker, correct?

BTW, I love my 87 but for me it is just not practical anymore, my kids are getting big, and I need 4 doors, and a little more comfort for the wife.
