Please Help 87 Toyota pick up
#1
Hello
I am stranded with my 87 Toyota 22r pickup...was running great. Well a little bit of not wanting to start, like it wasn't getting gas, but I put fuel injector cleaner in it and has been better. Anyhow went to start it and I heard a back fire or some sort of noise ( it was very noisy where I was) and it quit. Now it will start no problem but will not idle or stay running without giving it fuel. Tried to drive and very doggie and does not want to stay running. I am hoping not a timming chain but don't really have any idea. Any help would be so appreciated.
Thanks,
Mzbanx

Give us time to respond. To check the timing chain pull the valve cover and look down the front of the motor. The drivers side guide is the usual suspect. Have you checked the codes in the diagnostic center. You jump T1&E1 I think. Look it up. And the. Count the flashes on the check engine light (CEL). If those come up clean the you might want to check the oil to make sure it's clean and check the antifreeze to make sure there is no oil in it. Then you can run a compression check. Start with codes and timing chain check. A quick search should turn up instructions. Hope this helps.

Correct, correct, and possibly along with spark plugs, wires, corroded ground wires, etc.

Along with what has been mentioned as far a tune up. I seen you run some fuel injector cleaner thru the tank. These tanks get very dirty with rust and varnish build up. One possibility that you just did is break down all of that varnish and clogged your fuel filter and maybe got into your jets or injectors.
You said 22r which I as carburetor motor. 22re will have injectors and be fuel injected.

Thank you for all the feed back. I don't think it is a clogged fuel filter ect because it was running just fine and after sitting about 8 hours this just happened when starting. It is a 22re fuel injector engine. I have to work all week-end so it is just going to have to sit till I have time to check it out. Unfortunately it is in a parking lot and can't get a check light on it at this time. Will keep you updated..
