No spark but have power, need HELP
Ok let me give a brief rundown of what I have.
1990 toyota with a 20r carb motor. It has a distributor from a 22r and an accel coil. Gm ignition control module and universal ignition switch.
Now before you start saying what it could be you should know that my truck was running before on this same ignition setup minus the universal ignition switch. It was on 2 toggle switches before a universal ignition switch.
Here's what is going on. Basically I can't get it to start. I have a fully charged optima, I'm getting 12v everywhere I should be. I've tried 2 different distributors, replaced the icm numerous times and have 3 different 12v coils.
The coils all check out good according to their specs. It turns over but no spark comes from the distributors. From what I know the distributor sends a signal to the icm that then sends a ground to the coil which then makes it fire. I can ground the coil individually but after 5 seconds it burns the icm up and the coil gets very hot
At this point you are probably wanting to know why I am using gm ignition components and not toyota. We'll to be honest I wanted to simplify things and for a while they were. From all the forums I've read about this conversion I can't find anyone that's had this issue.
So if anyone can offer advice I'm open to try anything. Please no sarcastic answers. Thank you
