Swap a 2.7L 3RZ-FE for a 4.0L 1GR-FE

Hey I have a 2002 Tacoma Prerunner with the 2.7L 3RZ-FE 4 banger motor, and I was wondering if I could switch it out for the 4.0L 1GR-FE V6 motor. I saw a yahoo answer that said it could be done, but I would rather come here and ask. Ive checked and havent seen any other threads about this. Also, would I need to do any tranny work to put that in? Thanks

Try searching for a build thread on that engine swap. Any particular reason your choosing that engine? Guessing that's the 4.0's from the Tacoma's? What are your goals for the truck?

Thats just the engine they mentioned. I want to get more power out of my truck. Having the 4 cyclinder doesnt really help me on gas that much anyways, so I want more power out of it especially since I usually have 2 dirtbikes in the bed of my truck, and sometimes a trailer with one or two more. I also tow jetskis as well. I just saw that engine as an easy swap and wasnt sure if it would be easiest or just a lot more power.

I'm not sure if that engine would be an "easy" swap or not. Do you have mechanical experience to swap and engine into a vehicle it wasn't designed for? Look into the 1uz and 2uz swaps. There V8's but they are common swaps so plenty of info will be out there.
Is your truck worth you swapping in a different engine rather than buying something better equipped from the factory?

Unless you have both an excess of spare time *and* mechanical/electrical skill, you're going to just be better off selling your Taco, and buying a newer Taco with the 4.0 in it.

A few issues with the swap. However, anything can be done with a welder and enough money. Drive by wire and the immobilizer from the 4.0 are a couple of the bigger issues when doing the swap. It's been done, though. Find Merlin's red tacoma prerunner build and see his swap.
