Maybe this should go in the noob section, but I can't seem to figure this out, ugh. Heard a clanging noise this morning and noticed the belt was twisted and slightly frayed and that pulley was moving freely. I replaced the belt, but the pulley still does that Any insight. I flipped through two different service manuals and din't come up with much on the subject and I'm new to 22re's

 

Just watched a video on youtube, sounds like I'll need to replace the entire harmonic balancer.

 

Okay, so it's time to change the harmonic balancer. Anything else I should do besides belts? I'm pulling the radiator since I've seen that mentioned several times and the PO had green antifreeze in there. I'll check the hoses while I'm at it.
Not looking to spend a ton of time on this, but anything "easy" while I got it apart is fine with me since I have no idea of the history of this truck.

Could check the seal under the crank pulley.

 

Sounds like I'll be doing that, with the redi sleeve deal that everyone talks about. Any reason to do the oil pump o-ring as well? There is a bit of oil down towards the bottom of the engine, but I've literally had the truck for less than a month and haven't had time to do much besides drive it once or twice a week.

edit: sorry, still learning as I go. I will be buying a new pulley, so I won't need the redi sleeve.

Also, should I be doing the oil pump o ring while I'm down there? Any reason to replace the oil pump altogether? Truck has 175K on it and I have zero knowledge of it's history. Anything else. Like I said above, I'm new to this motor and new to this truck. If I got most of that stuff apart, I may as well do anything else while I'm down there...

Parts List:
Harmonic Balancer - Dorman via rockauto
Belts - Gates brand either locally or rockauto
Coolant - red stuff local dealership
radiator hoses - inspect, replace is needed
front main seal - dealership most likely
oil pump o ring - dealership

 

i had a similar issue after removing the pulley - the alternator portion got kicked out of alignment. quick tap with a hammer/ screwdriver put her back in place and she's true again. maybe yours is too far gone for repair. new aisin oil and water pumps are cheap from rock auto so why not get those with your new balancer. i would advise against the speedy sleeve, those are JUNK. Absolutely not a reliable repair. But with a new crank pulley you won't have to worry about that anyway.
