Hey there everybody. I've scoped out the site for years, and just finally registered. I'm having (what I believe is) an issue with my 93 22re pickup. I removed the cab carpet in fall (when it was cool). In the past few months as it has gotten hotter outside I have noticed the floor in the cab around the gear box / transfer case has gets very hot, only after 5 or so miles. I know that there will certainly be heat radiating into the cab, but this seems too hot. I've changed the fluids in both gear & trans with no difference. Suggestions? Ideas? Thanks for your help.

 

Don`t forget your cat sits just about under the drivers seat heat always goes up

80 or 90 degree temps don`t help.

 

You also have heat coming from the exhaust up under the truck. Reinstall the carpet and add insulation.

 

Put your carpet back.

No strange noises? Seems normal to me.

 

You can look into Lizardskin roll on insulating liner as well, I will probably go that route soon.

 

Also keep in mind that what's hot to you isn't particularly hot to steel and oil. It's common for the oil in your transmission and rear end to run upwards of 130-150 degF, and short-term it can go well past 200 during a heavy pull without hurting anything. Some heating is good in that it causes the condensed water in the gear boxes to vaporize and get out of there.
