painting the frame n stuffs

Whats a good durable paint to make that frame look nice? Toyota-fest is right around the corner and I want it to look better than the way it looks now. The problem is i'll be painting from under the truck.

ALSO! Where can I get those slash guards or whatever they're called? Those aprons on the sides of the engine bay and bed?

Thanks

Rustoleum. And why do you need to guard your truck from Slash?

Are we talking a particular type of Rustoleum? Where the hell can I find those splash guards?

Just regular Rustoleum should be fine. I'd even settle for the cheap dollar stuff Home depot sells since you're in Cali and don't really have to worry about rust issues.

As for the splash guards I don't know if any company sells them. Maybe try a junk yard or look for someone parting a truck on C-List.

Rustoleum it is.

UGGGGGGH!!!! Looks like I have some cleaning and sanding to do.

So frustraiting at times. No one has what you're looking for on craigslist and the junk yard is a gamble.

By "splash guards" I assumed you meant the inner fenders. They're listed on Rockauto, but with very little detail, and probably some of the other major part websites.

Correct. The inner front/ rear fenders. The rubber flaps that cover the side of the engine bay and bed. I've been looking all over for part names and numbers but everything I see is mud flaps.

I tried looking at the Toyota parts diagrams from other threads but cannot find the right site that sells them if they do.

I can try and use the ones I have for a template and make my own but I might be missing some pieces.

Have you considered por15? It's much more durable than Rustoleum and plenty of members here will vouch for it!

Never heard.

Is it common? Something easy to find at the local store?

You're gonna have to order POR-15 online. And while it works VERY well, if you use it on anything exposed to sunlight, it will fade, fast.

But I have to hand paint it on there. Won't that leave brush marks and streaks?

I was hoping it would be in spray form.

For what you're doing I would say POR-15 is overkill. When I did the SAS on my truck a couple years back I used cheap Home Depot $1 paint on the frame and it still looks great. The guys suggesting POR-15 are in the rust belt where it is needed.

Us west coasters don't have to worry about their rust problems.

I'm just looking to touch up some areas since the frame is exposed.

I want it to look good for all the photographers.

Alright, here it is. I went with Rust-oleum Undercoating.

I degreased everything and made a lot of chocolate milk out of it. Most of the frame was still black after cleaning.

I've shoud of taken pics of it cleaned. I was quite shocked to see it was still black. Less black. You can still see it in the "dirty" pics.

All that crap you see in the pics is actually years and years of baked crap on there. The degreaser, water and scrub pad worked well. All that crap ended up melting into a fine chocolate milk shake.

Pretty nasty stuff.

Once all that was clened and dried, yes, there were some rust scratches, so yeah, I did straight paint over it. I didn't paint the whole thing too. Just the sides and bottom. Enough it make it pretty.

Had I chosen the ladder, the way I wanted to do, I was looking at several k $$$. So 2 bottles of rust-oleum, and degreaser with my scrubber pad it was.
