Hey guys, I have a 1993 Pickup with a 22RE motor. Looking into swapping my ignition wires with something better than OEM (I'm long overdue on a change)


My searching for parts has been very irritating due to Toyota's implementation of a different distributor cap for the 1993 and later model years. I can find all kinds of 7 and 8mm wire kits for 79-92 4 cylinder trucks but there is a disturbing lack of performance wires for 93-95 trucks. Most of my searches give me useless 3VZ results for my model year. Id rather not just put in another set of OEM wires if SOMEBODY out there manufactures improved ones.


Has anyone encountered this and managed to find a suitable wire set?

 

IMO 22re are fussy about what they like for wires. the conductor material in alot of performance sets doesnt always work well in a toyota ign system. i always go back to stock wires and use an upgraded coil for the best performance. just a simple hi output coil makes a noticeable difference. i always use the thin wires with the o-ring type sealing connectors.

 

Wouldn't the plugs and coil be the only fussy ones, not the engine itself?

I found a 7mm NGK harness and the manual recommends NGK plugs when you change them. Idiot math says it should work. Divide the answer by "****˟˟˟˟˟˟˟˟˟ happens" and I'm back to square one.

 

its just the way these things work. ign systems have alot of parts that are involved from the circuitry all the way to the batt. i suppose if you changed everything out to aftermarket parts things would be different. idk im not an electrical genius. but sometimes simple oem parts are the best.
