My timing belt recently broke after the water pump seized. Got the timing belt kit that came with all the idlers and water pump and timing belt. Got it all replaced and ran well with the exception of a front main seal leak. Took it down again replaced the seal. After driving about 25 miles check the oil and it is about 2 quarts low but I cant find any leaks. Nothing dripping on the ground or on the skid plate. I am not a mechanic by any means, is their something else I should have checked or replaced? Other than the low oil level the engine runs fine, no error codes.

Was the oil at the full mark before you went for the drive? Were you using any oil before this work? What is the status of the cam oil seals? Is the oil dipstick not seated in the block or the O-ring on the dipstick leaking? Did you have the valve covers off and fail to put sealant in the required locations when re-installing?

 

The oil was at the full mark before the drive. It was not using any oil before this work. I will check on the oil dipstick tube and o ring. I did not have the valve covers off.

After the first repail (water pump and timing belt) I started up the engine and let it get up to operating temp that is when the mail seal started leaking. That is when i tore down the front again to replace that and it was the only leak I found. After the main seal repair I let the engine run for several minutes and checked the oil and it was fine. I drove the truck to work 12 miles and checked the oil when I got there and it was fine. After work I drove home and checked it when I got home and there was only about .5 of an inch on the stick.

During this repair I changed the oil. I have no idea what kind was in it but I replaced it with Castrol synthetic EDGE 5W30. I have checked for leaks around the plug and filter.
