I have a 95 toy truck has the 4 cyl 5 speed 4x4.Put another engine in and the wiring harness got ate up a little and I am trying to hook up the wires to the tranny and transfer case..I have the plug on the wiring harness for the back of the transfer case and it plugs in okay.But the wires that go to the backup light switch are cut.I wired the two wires coming from the backup switch to the two wires that are left on the harness and it will make the 4x4 switch come on in the dash whenever I put the truck in reverse instead of making the backup lights come on.Whenever I take the tranny out of reverse the 4x4 light will go out.Everything worked before.I didnt have the transfer case in 4x4 either.I switched the wires around and it makes no difference.Any suggestions would be helpful.

 

Sounds like you got your back up light switch and the 4 wheel drive mixed up.
