88 3.0vze won't stay running or start hot

I bought a 88 3.0vze 4x4 over a month ago. I really enjoy the truck. But I started having issues a week ago. I changed the plugs/wires last weekend and it was hard to start cold. Would sputter and die after a few cranks. Then it would finally idle up and be fine. Seemed to run and drive pretty well. I replaced the temp sensor and sending unit because my temp gauge hasn't worked properly. It didn't fix it. I looked into the cold start switch but couldn't find one anywhere other then used ones on e bay. So I took it out and cleaned. Then I sprayed the engine off with a pressure washer and that's when it went downhill. I was careful to avoid the distributor and alternator. Anyhow it idled up and I got in it and as soon as I touched the gas pedal it died. Took a bit to get going. Exhaust smelled very rich with white smoke. The idle leveled out and I drove it five minutes away. Left it parked for an hour then when I tried starting it it was sputtering real bad low rpm and white smoke smelling very heavy of fuel. Idle would level out butassoon as I barely touch gas it dies. I replaced the cap and rotor but it didn't do anythinh. Please tell me where I should start troubleshooting.
