98 f150 1kz engine swap issues

good day people! =)

we recently had an engine swap for our f150 (auto/trans) replacing it with a toyota 1kz engine (auto/trans), gasoline ain't cheap here in our country and running a diesel engine is more efficient... happy to have made the swap =)

there are issues after the swap that i want to solve

1st issue - parasitic battery discharge
after the swap we couldn't find what's causing it, checked all the fuses and relays but no luck, everything seems to be off when the ignition key is turned off, tried a couple of batteries and drained both of them after 1-2 days of not starting the engine so i think it's safe to say that it's not my battery, alternator is working good and charging

also i noticed that after turning the ignition key on i have to wait for at least 30sec to a minute for the battery gauge on the dash to give the correct reading

2nd issue - reverse light is not working, i understand that ford uses DTR as switch but how can i get the reverse light working with the 1kz transmission using the original wiring going to the reverse light? my last option would be a manual switch but still prefer to have it working by the shifter

3rd issue - speedometer is not accurate, i think i'm already running at 100 and it still reads around 40-60kph, this can cause big trouble on highways where speed guns are all over the place

rpm gauge is not working as well... =(

any help from you guys would be very well appreciated...

thanks!

Good Luck!!

You need the Ford wiring diagrams and the one for the year of the engine.

as for your battery drain something wired up wrong

Having that it would be simple to figure out the back up lights

could be a relay wired wrong and the coil is always energized or contacts stuck.

How long it takes to drain the battery might give you a idea where to look .

A shorted alternator or starter that still works will drain your battery

What ever it is does not draw enough current to open a fuse or fusible link

Might be a glove box light staying on.

radio or clock drawing to much current.

I can only guess this has happened since your engine swap .

Something in the merging of the harness or a pinched wire.

A plug connected with a bent pin.

Have you checked with a meter the alternator is charging??

Does this engine have glow plugs and are they wired through a relay via the ignition switch??

It will take awhile if the glow plugs cycled for the voltage to raise up to normal Even cranking the engine will cause this.

yup everything right after the swap...
a day without starting the engine will surely drain the battery, like if i use it today and don't start the engine the next morning it will drain the same night.

haven't checked the alternator with a meter but its charging, what do i have to look for with a meter?

glove lights and ash tray lights - i disconnected already, thought it would fix the problem

Does this engine have glow plugs and are they wired through a relay via the ignition switch?? - this i'm not quite sure of, didn't really know how they wired everything, how can i check? all i know is that they used a new harness and box

thanks sir!

@ sir wyoming9 i think i may have accidentally found the culprit!

plugged in my little daughter's portable dvd and noticed that it has power without me sticking the key in

cigarette lighter and the extra power port are both working without the keys plugged in and when turned off, isn't it suppose to work only when ignition switch is "on" and turned to "accesories"?

checked the my other cars and none of the cigarette lighters work without me turning the ignition to on or acc

do you know how i could fix this? thanks!
