SR5 Gauge Pod Alternate Gauges

So I bought a SR5 gauge pod back last year and the guy I bought it from didn't tell me it was the alternate gauges with the amps and different units for oil pressure. Well I had decided to sell it but I can't even hardly give the thing away so I think I'm gonna try and hook it up. Found very little information on these. The 83 FSM says nothing about these gauges so I guess they are from an early 1st gen like a 79 or 80?

Does anyone have any experience with these gauges? I think the oil pressure will still wire the same and I already have the different oil pressure sending unit for it. The amp meter is what I am concerned about. I would think the amp meter would need to be series with the charge wire coming off the alternator. I don't think this is a shunt style amp meter.

I have a 1983 SR5 since new and mine has a volt meter. I think the one you have is an earlier unit not 1983. VDO Vision Series Voltmeter is back lighted and bolts right in. You can also purchase an Oil Pressure Gauge to match. If you look at my album "MY TOY" you can see what they look like installed.

I might still have my stock '81 guages, will look when I'm at my mom's place this weekend. I replaced for a mech oil press and a matching volt meter. if they're around and in decent condition I'd let ya have em for shipping. I think they were fine, oil sending unit went out so I just changed out gauges IIRC.

Good call on replacing that unit you have. It might be a JDM set, or something from outside the US market. Plugging that into the stock voltmeter wiring would cause chaos. Or at least a fire.
