Excessive clutch free play

Hello All & HELP !,

I'm new to the Yotatech forum and from what I've read on the net it seems like a very good place to look for help. And I need it !

I have a 1991 2wd Toyota Hilux, 2.4lt RN85.

Replaced the worn out clutch, I bought the replacement from Repco, but now I seem to have an excessive amount of free play at the pedal, must be 5-6" (this wasn't present before). I've bleed the system, 'pump it up, hold it down' check the level etc, no air was present (I also did this before beginning the job). I've used every last thread of the free play adjustment rod under the dash. I double checked the fork placement, I'm at a lose, Removed the box and noticed the pressure plate springs are very flat when tightened (tightened in the crisscross pattern), should they be ?

In my feeble, aging mind I'm thinking this is the cause of the excessive free play.

Everything looks correct by eye, lines up nicely, went together fine.

Could it be a Master and slave cylinder issue ?

Please help.
