Cat to muffler gasket

I am going to change the muffler on my 89 pickup it is leaking like a sieve. I got this muffler at a decent price but the only gasket it comes with is this little donut that goes between the muffler and the cat output. I have never done this and just wanted to make sure that is correct and that I am not missing a gasket before starting this job. It looks like this little donut just goes over the flange on the muffler and gets compressed to the cat output. Just not sure. Thanks for the info!

The gasket is correct.

Make sure you have all new hardware the rubber hangers clamps if you need them

Silicone spray helps get the new hangers on.

Is this one piece from the cat muffler and tail pipe??

I hate exhaust work when something goes I replace it all.

Over and done

That's a good idea. It is a one piece from cat to exhaust pipe. I am waiting to get the bolts off so I can get some new ones of the same size. The hangars look pretty good so I was going to reuse them, but maybe I should just go all new... Thanks for the good info. I appreciate it.

Just curious How did it go??

I find most times the rubber hangers get so very hard after being cooked the life of the exhaust system.

Almost impossible to get off with out a knife.

Not yet... Every time I get a day off it's been freezing rain! Yesterday I got dressed up for working in the cold and as soon as I got outside, more freezing rain. I'm too lazy to rearrange vehicles and get the old yota in the garage. On the plus side, every day I get delayed is another day for those bolts to soak. Maybe I won't have to get out the torch! I will post up how it goes once I get out there. Tomorrow after work is looking promising at this point...

I find a cut off disc is much better then a torch for removing these bolts .

Not like anything is in the way once your under the truck.

Well, I got the old muffler off no problems, no torch, no cutting, just my old man's homemade penetrant. However, the replacement that I got online from a place called "parts geek" doesn't fit right, it is slightly too long, and the wrong flange. In addition, these people's customer service is atrocious. They don't answer their phone and their online help system is terrible! I have reached the maximum allowable tickets for "customer support" and have gotten no where. They looked up my order and apologized for sending the wrong part and gave me a return number but have told me that I am responsible for shipping! When I ordered the muffler, they charged me $9 to ship, but the cheapest return shipping I can find via fed ex ground, which is how they sent it, is in excess of $120! I am still running around in circles trying to get their customer service to even listen to my complaint about this. As it stands now, I would tell everyone to steer clear of "parts geek," unless they make this right. I will post how it goes, but right now DO NOT buy anything from parts geek unless you want to get robbed!
