Question Breather mod ? So - how do you get the gas cap seal off ?

I have searched, even using The NW Toys Site with no luck.

I found 1 post Here that talks about loosening the 14mm nut that holds the cable release.

I did that, and it seemed like that cable was going to fall into the body, so I decided NAH.

I'd like to make sure that the breather is tied off up top, but unless I can get this seal off I will not be able to see for sure.

I cannot find pictures of this anywhere !

Thanks !

Not mine, but same body style ( mine is a 2000 ) , and from the post above. On the right side, behind the fuel cap, you can see the latching mechanism that the 14 mm bolt holds.

My thought was to leave the breather behind the seal, but zip tied to one of the fuel filler hoses.

Thanks !

Britt

There is usually one or two metal retaining rings that hold the rubber boot around the fill neck to the body or to the neck. It is one piece of metal with cut on one end, usually a small pick tool can be used to pull it out of the boot. Here is a similar picture that shows the rings (#6 and #7 in the diagram):

I don't really know what seal you're talking about, but I just zip-tied mine to the very top of the fuel filler hose and it works just fine.

It is a rubber boot - pattycakes77's diagram did not show it.

Maybe I can try the reach waaaaaaaaaaaaay up method tomorrow as it won't happen tonight, and I sure could not see that far up Saturday when I was playing w/ this ...

If I wasn't so anal, I could cut a slit in that boot, but I do not want to do that ...

Lightbulb Found the outer ring yesterday.

Fold the outer lip of that rubber seal ( which I am now guessing is # 5 in your diagram ) and lo & behold, there it is. A small screw driver will allow you to get in the gap on the ring and it pulls out from that point by hand. That left the second, however, which I could not find, so I gave up & went from below. I pulled the splash shield for the fuel lines (that mounts to the inner quarter panel fender w/ four PITA !!!! plastic clips ) and zip tied as I could then see it.

I only pulled 2 of those plastic clips out, and destroyed both in the process. I got some good ol' GM ones I had for the Cobalt & used those instead as I decided I did not want to zip tie the slash shield in place.

Now, to get the rear axle seal PS side taken care of - hello, local 4 by shop !!!

Thanks for the input & assistance, and Merry Christmas !

Britt
