Axle chunk question!

Axle chunk question!

I have a buddy that has 5.29 gear ratio chunk in a 6 lug solid front axle, would this chunk also work in my v6 6 lug rearend I believe his is a 87 axle??! Any help on this one guys !?

I think the short answer is yes it will fit. Being that his is in the front of an SFA truck, we know it must be an 8" ring gear, so it will go right into your 8" rear axle. The one question I would have is whether it is a V6 version of the diff or a 4cyl version. Most would say the v6 version is stronger. You can identify the diff type by the housing. Up to you if that strength difference really matters to you, and one more thing, just my .02 here, but 5.29 seems like a steep ratio for 3.0 and 33" tires.

I appreciate the info I thought all v6 diff came with 6 lugs and the 5 lugs came with the 4 cylinders ?? And it's a automatic btw that's why I'm going that steep

It's not 6 cylinder vs/ 4 cylinder that determines whether its a 6 lug or 5 lug. It's 2wd vs. 4wd. 4wd are 6 lug, 2wd are 5 lug.

But would a 4 cylinder diff work in a 6 cylinder diff??
