1988 22re automatic, I replaced the fuel pump it started twice then cranks but does not fire. Just replaced fuel filter and no fire. I checked relays and fuses they seem to be good, cracked line at cold start injector and no fuel.

 

The fuel pump does not run with just key-on; it doesn't run until you turn to STA (Start). So if you "cracked" the line at the cold start injector, you were hoping for just residual fuel pressure to push fuel out.

You can test the fuel pump by jumping Fp to B+ on the diagnostic connector. This might help you find it: http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTri...CheckConnector You can hear the pump running with the jumper.

Cracking the fuel line at the Cold Start injector (or anywhere else) is a bad idea, because the sealing washers are one-time-use. Yeah, you cranked on them good, but they could still leak. Fortunately, the washers are dirt cheap, but you can only get them from the dealer SFAIK.

If you can hear the pump it's probably working, but if you really want to check flow you can remove the return line from the Fuel Pressure Regulator and put it into a container. With the pump running fuel will gush out. The return line is low-pressure, so you can just clamp it back on.

 

I did use the jumper to check fuel, looking for other ideas that could cause a no fuel issue.

 

Bad wiring, bad ground, ECU issues, a bad fuse that visibly looks ok.....

 

I checked everything but ECU before I replaced the bad fuel pump. After fuel pump change it started up twice then after sitting for quite awhile it was not getting fuel. I figured the fuel filter got plugged up after dropping the tank. Replaced the filter and still no fuel. This is a mini motor home so it does not get driven every day. Did recheck fuses and relays.

 

IS the pump running? Replacing the fuel filter (even though it's a maintenance item) won't help if the pump isn't running. Cracking the fuel line wouldn't add anything if the pump is not running.

If the pump is not running, you can check for continuity to ground on the FP connector; it's connects straight to the pump and if you don't get continuity you have an open in the pump or wiring.

If the pump is running but you have no fuel flow, you probably have a break inside the tank. It's certainly possible, but unlikely that the fuel line is so completely blocked that no fuel at all gets past.

 

Well it's the fuel pump, I put power to it at the tank connection and nothing. When this started I had a friend crank it while I was under the tank and could hear the pump running. Crap now I have to pull the tank again. It's a real PITA because of the crap added for the motor home. Need to change filter anyway as it was the original, but can't believe the pump went that quick.
