cat stolen :/ straight pipe?

Got my 4runner on Sunday and about shat myself at the sound when she started. I first glanced at my rev gauge, then killed the engine and sure enough, somebody stole my catalytic converter and everything behind it. Of course my 17 year old little brother loved the sound when I showed him and thinks I'm "challenged" for wanting to put back on a quiet exhaust.
A quick trip to the parts store left me with a Walker soundfx muffler, a pair of pipe clamps and a 2 1/8" coupling. Combined with a bit of wire and I've got the most redneck ghetto rigged POS muffler hanging underneath my rig so now my truck doesn't sound like the arrival of Armageddon and I'm not freaking out about getting pulled over. A coworker has some wielding gear and volunteered to do the wielding when I get my system put together.
Should I go through the expense of finding another catalytic converter? Lucky me, I don't have to smog my 4runner so that's not a concern. I was thinking if back pressure was an issue, I could just add a choke point and put a 1 7/8" resonator where the cat was and then run the rest of the plumbing as usual?
Also I had an odd thought while I was in autozone, the thrush turbo muffler looks like the same approx size as my cat was, perhaps put it in place before the walker muffler for back pressure and to really quiet things down?

I bought a straight pipe when I purchased my exhaust. I didn't like it. Sounded way too snappy. I took it off and got a high flow cat. Much better and a happy medium between the sound of the stock cat and the test pipe.

Put a glasspack in it's place. Serves as a resonator and will quiet the exhaust similarly to what the cat did, yet provide straight thru performance. Exhaust shop can install those for about $30.

If you have to run her through emissions or safety inspections she may not pass without the cat.just took mine off because it was plugged , left it off and just threw on a muffler, but I am running historic tags and don't do any inspections.
