89 Toyota 3rd swap

I'm new to the Toyota world. I just picked up an 89 4x4 truck with a 22re. I put some 31s and it doesn't have the same peep. So I bought some 3rd out of a 92 4runner with 4.56 gears $100. Now the runner has auto hubs and my are manual hubs. So I can use my diff cover but on the side of the housing has all the vaccum hook ups. So can delete that and take all that crap off?

You can either lock the vaccuum aucuator in place or swap it out with the manual tube. a new seal between the tube and the 3rd must be used when swapping the tubes.

You wont be re using your "diff cover" youll be replacing the whole front 3rd.

You only mentioned getting one diff, so make sure you front and rear gears match, or be prepared to for binding in the transmission.

Thanks for the reply and info. I have already installed them and I switch the long tube. Are the short tubes the same? Like parts bearing etc. I just dont want to be chasing down parts. I counted the teeth on the gears and they came out 4.555555 etc. Also are the factory limit slip any good as it has one in it thanks?

I'm betting its a typical V6 third member with the 4-pinion carrier. Which looks like a limited slip assembly kinda... But until I see pics with clutch packs visible....

And I don't know what a short tube is. Maybe for a breaker bar cheater? I prefer a long tube for that, more leverage.
