Real or Myth? Solid Rear Window for a 1994 Toyota Pickup DXL?

Okay, here's my question. Are there solid rear windows for DXL Toyotas? I've been looking around and so far all the DXL models i've seen driving around have sliding windows. Would a solid rear window from a regular (single cab) Toyota fit? Do they have to be custom made? If so, How? Any advise would be very appreciated, thank you very much

Yes, DLX(Deluxe) or STD(Standard), could have one from the factory. So, no, they don't have to be custom made. You just won't find one on an SR5 from the factory.

Thank you very much MUDHIPPY, really appreciate it! It will make my search a lot easier knowing that a DXL can be fitted from a Regular cab.

Oh you're welcome. But...

DLX = Deluxe trim package ≠ DXL. A DLX can be regular cab or Xtra cab. I don't know what a DXL is. I do know that Toyota doesn't make them.

STD = Standard trim package ≠ Regular cab. A STD can be regular cab or Xtra cab.

SR5 = "Sport" trim package ≠ DLX or STD. An SR5 can be regular cab or Xtra cab.

As far as the regular cab fitting a DLX. I don't know what the difference is between a regular cab and an Xtra cab back glass. Other than, most Xtra cabs have tinted back glass. But assuming there's enough size difference to matter, you'd most likely need to find one from a regular cab DLX or STD to fit your regular cab. Even if yours is an SR5. Since an SR5 wouldn't have one from the factory(though it's possible you might find an SR5 having been equipped with one at a later date).

Word of the day : Nomenclature.

i'm 100% positive i've seen a DLX xcab with a solid rear window. i know because i was asking myself why someone would ever want a solid rear window on their xcab (since i use mine often). so i guess they are out there if a reg cab's glass won't work on the xcab.

perhaps call up an auto glass place?

I know you can go from a solid glass to sliding glass so why not the other way

I replaced the factory sliding glass in my 90 sr5 about 3 months ago with a solid back glass I ordered from a local glass shop. No, I never used it, I use the sun roof for vent.

Just curious why you don't want a sliding rear
I don't use mine for venting but have used it many times when loading up longer items from the lumber store. Slide the one end in through the back window and I can close the tailgate

PS: I also have an 89 DLX Ext cab that came with a solid rear window so they are out there...

got rid of my slider for a solid for a few reasons. it is an easy entry point for thieves, i opened it a handful of times for ventilation and didnt like the airflow in the cab, was easier to tint, and the main one was solids just looks cleaner IMO

Not exactly sure what you mean by that(though I have a rough idea). I can't get mine open from the outside...period. But it's not broken either(and I refuse to break it, for no good reason). I won't explain how/why(or what) being broken matters though(for obvious reasons).

But in reality, both types are equally easy (forced) entry points. Don't ask me what I mean by that. I will not explain how/why/what on that one either(too for obvious reasons).

sounds like your rough idea is pretty much on point. mine wasnt broken in any way and neither was my friends that i learned from on how to open it with a simple tool because they locked there keys inside.
i just feel my truck was more secure with a solid window especially in the area i used to live in where my truck was outside. if someone wants in bad enough to pull the whole back window out, there isnt much i can do about it.

I can open a sliding back window on one of our trucks with a flathead screw driver in about 15 seconds... ive done it on mine numerous times when i was dumb enough to lock the keys inside

You hit the nail on the head! Those are exactly the same reasons why I would prefer a solid glass. That and my slider has the chrome bezel that sticks out too much when you have an orange and black toy.

Oh, my bad. DLX is right. I'm tripping by saying DXL. Thanks again.

You know, I always thought it would be a great mod to convert a solid rear windows into a power unit that would go up and down like the rear on a 4 runner. Might look into it this winter...
