ok so i have a 86 pickup. i just bought it a couple weeks ago. i noticed the oil pressure sending unit??? is gone and was at one time replaced with an aftermarket oil pressure gauge. The fitting is no broken off the block, filled with jb weld, and covered with gasket maker. this dribbles out and down the side of the block, slowly. i need to fix this. Also the intake manifold seems to be leaking water from the gasket on the bottom and dripping down on to the oil filter. the strange thing is that i am finding oil puddled up on the top of the intake manifold. i dont know where its coming from. head gasket looks ok from the outside. no water in oil from what i can tell. doesnt get hot. also i notice a lot of oil puddled up on the front diff and sway bar. this could just be from it dripping from somewhere. im not sure. doesnt seem to be leaking from the oil filter. its brand new and i oiled the gasket up before i put it on. i dont know how oild is getting on the top of the underneath part of the intake manifold in turn dripping down. i also do not know how oil is getting on top of the intake manifold pooling up between the intake ports. i took a lot of pics that will hopefully help. this is my first truck of any kind. thanks alot in advance.

 

I have the same problem with the oil pressure port. I was attempting to pull out my oil pressure switch to replace with a sender for a gauge when the thing snapped off! I tried to use an easy out to back the broken piece out, but that broke also. I had to use a dremel and grind around the easy out and in the process, I made the hole in the block oblong.
If u want to attempt to take the broken piece out, you will need to grind or drill through the jb weld. DO NOT use an easy out. They suck! I've never had one work for me. If I could do it all over I would drill the piece in the block out using consecutive size drill bits. The. If the threads got marred up at least I could use a time sert insert and repair the hole properly. Another thing to try would be to use reverse bits and if you are lucky, the bit will catch the broken piece and back it out. The size of the hole btw is 3/8 inch NPT. Good luck! Mine is covered with jb weld for now as well....

 

Thanks for the tip. I was wondering how I was going to get it out. Do you think that oil leak could be causing the oil all over. Maybe by landing on a moving part. I doubt it though as there is oil on top of the manifold.

 

Good of Toyota to use NPT on your block.

In all the ones I ever installed I needed an adapter to go from the Metric thread.

I don`t recall the Metric size but can find it when I need to i think it is M10x1.0 but could be wrong.

 

i had already picked up a install kit for a oil pressure gauge from napa and it had a few different adapters in it.

 

What could leak oil on to the top of the intake manifold??? I've looked around and I've read Leakey valve cover or head gasket but it doesnt seem to be it.

 

Valve cover is the most likely culprit, the gasket gets brittle and leaks, or had been over tightened at some point. They don't last forever.

 

I looked around the valve cover for leaks and didn't see any. The driver side of the motor is ok. No oil at all. I didn't take the valve cover off though.

 

I have rebuilt a motor on my 85. i had a random leak in about the same area i looked everywhere to fix it. It was the valve cover gasket. it just broke in one place in the middle towards the injectors. i hope this helps

 

Ok I guess ima have to pull the valve cover and change the gasket.

 

It's not hard to do at all on a 22RE, be glad you don't have a 3VZ-E!

I'll check it out but I don't think it's that because I don't see any oil leaking from the valve cover at all.

 

Is there anything by the oil pump on the front? Its there any splash on your Hood?

 

ok there is some splatter on the hood but i dont know if its from the PO or not. didnt see anything on the front of the motor. i did however see that the front passenger side of the head gasket does have a very small amount of oil there. it could be from that block off plate above it because that was leaking and i swapped it out.

 

Ok that sounds great it seems like it would on the front. The only way it could hit your hood is by having the oil being hit by your belts

 

ima degrease the motor as best as i can and try to see where its coming from.
