TJM rubber bumper removal - how to.

Can someone on this board tell me how the rubber bumpers on the front of the TJM are attached, or more importantly, detatched?
Thanks,
Mike

Rubber bumpers?

You mean the rubber inbetween the front bumper and the side "wings" for lack of a better term.

Negative. The large square bumperette's that stick out the front. The things that would leave nice black marks on anything I "bump". They have TJM stickers on them.

Thanks,
Mike

I think he means the 2 rubber bumper pad thingys the new ones have on the front. Is there maybe a bolt though the bumper to hold them on?

Those are the ones. There is no bolt that I can see from the back though.

Maybe they glued them on, do they wiggle at all or are they really stuck tight? You could always call TJM and ask them.

I don't know if they are like the ones from ARB, but those have a stud molded into the rubber/foam body, and the studs are fastened to the body of the bumper with hex nuts. The hex nuts aren't accessible until you remove the bumper body from the two front crumple mounts that attach to the frame.

That's what I thought but the bumper is already off and I don't see anything in the back. It does move around a bit and I am half tempted to just see if I can pop it off with a good tug. The TJM stickers may also be on a plastic plate. If those come off, maybe it will reveal a secret mounting method.
Hmmm.

I know if you were to tug on the ARB ones, they would be close to ruined. The head of the screw is imbedded in the foam stuff - and if you pull it out, a big chunk of foam will come with it. You would have to use some kind of adhesive to re-seat the stud if you wanted to use it again.

I am curious why you want to remove them. They are generally called bumperettes. Pretty gay name but i guess it fits since they're so leeetle....

I am modifying my TJM and I am considering some welding that might be a skosh too close to the bumperette. I do not wish to melt them. I am working on an alternative plan though.
I was also wondering just in case I ever needed to replace one, how the dang things come off.
