Carb Rebuild Problems

So I rebuilt my stock carb this weekend and I re-installed it and the truck started up, didn't run well but it ran. After inspecting it I pushed in the metering needle and it started to run better. At first I had the needle to where it sprung up and then I changed to where it sprung down. Not sure what direction it should be. I could keep the truck running around 1K rpm but any less it would sputter and kill. Then I noticed the float bowl was filling up past the sight glass so I took the off the carb off and adjusted the float high and low settings of the per the FSM. Re-installed the carb and the truck ran again but still was over filling the bowl.

Started looking through the FSM and realized I never put in the little spring in the two piece needle that is attached the float. So I tore it back apart and put the spring in and then re-installed the carb and the truck started up. While it was running I lifted the metering needle up and it killed the engine and now I can't get it to turn over again. Sometimes it will attempt ot turn over for a second if I pump the gas several times. Could I have adjusted the float wrong? Not sure whats wrong now.

I pulled the top off the carb again and checked my float settings and they are correct per the FSM. I did notice the bowl was empty so I checked the fuel pump and it is squirting fuel. I'm tempted to put my old float back in and see what happens.

I found a diagram on this page that helped me figure out the fuel problem.

I had the horizontal tab on the float bent up to far and it was keeping the needle valve shut and not letting in any fuel. I pulled it back down some (probably too far) to let some fuel get in. Tried starting the truck again but still won't turn over, gonna let it sit till the morning and then try again.

I got it running again. I pulled the new float and set the tabs on it to exactly what the old float was and it fired right up. Fuel level sits a little below halfway in the glass so I am ok with that. I believe from what I have read that is better for steep angles in helping to keep the carb from flooding.
