axle wrap

ok so I am new and I have searched, but I have been having issues with axle wrap I have 4.56 gears and 32x11.5 tires. I installed my gears a couple months back and it was great lots of power ect shifting up on hills instead of down but I had a minor head gasket leak and it got worse and so I fixed it and it was doing fine for a little while and then the axle wrap started, and so I got brand new springs mine were almost flat and add a leafs just for extra strength and bj spacers to level it out and I still have terrible axle wrap and I am getting really annoyed as you all can imagine I know some common causes of axle wrap are worn out springs (which is not the case anymore) and bad pinion angle which I have searched around and seen pics and my pinion angle looks fine so please help I have looked into and am seriously considering a traction bar of some kind but will that fix it or am I overlooking something obvious?

I have the same issue with my 93 model. I've replaced my springs as well. I can put my truck in gear get out and shove the truck and and forth and watch the spring give allowing my axle to wrap. From my findings these springs are junk. There's 3 fixes I know that will eliminate the issue.

1: 63" chevy spring swap

2: traction bar

3: weld larger spring perches on the rear end to give the spring something larger to set on.

Good luck maybe someone else can chime in on this one.

That should look really cool on a stock pickup with a 4 banger.
Seriously its not even worth screwing with. Its always had axle wrap.
Unless you added lift blocks or removed the overload leaf it will be fine.

BTW add a leafs add to axle wrap.

It did not always have axle wrap that shakes the truck violently on the freeway and makes it almost impossible to go up hills how do add a leafs make it worse?

The oveload leaf on these trucks is what controls axle wrap the most. Believ it or not. When u lift the rest of the pack off the ol leaf, you alow for more axle wrap.

And there you go, it didnt have a problem before the add a leaf. Now when you step on the gas the pinion angle becomes way off causing the vib. Lose the add aleaf. Youd be better off with a combo of 1 to 2 inch lift blocks and longer shackles imo. AAL's destroy springs, always have. The zuk mode gives you more axle wrap with stock springs also. Best way is to get better springs.

to build the trac bar i use 1.5" solid bar in a piiece of tube with johnny joints on the end and weld a piece of tube to the side of the housing with joint also and attach to the tube the solid bar is in. this keeps it stable and with the bar inside the tube it allows trac bar twist as the housing articulates. i will get some pics up this week of it

Ok so I have been looking into driveline issues and have removed the aal and put shims in to make my diff and transfer case flanges parallel but I still get the vibrations I have replaced my u joints so it can't be that... The vibrations happen at lower rpms I can do 35 in third no problem but as soon as I shift into 4th the vibrations start and its like that through all the gears...

wow no way. Blocks and shackles will make it way worse. You will be adding so much leverage on those springs. If the springs are flat get a new pack. make sure your shocks are good. Also some tires will vibrate pretty bad if they are cheap and not balanced.

as for the bad vibratio Does the drive shaft have the cc joint on it. I run CVS front and reareven with schdl 40 shafts I have 0 vibration.Trac bar will easily fix the axle wrap if you don't it will bend the main leaf.I went thru 2sets of springs.

Wow yes way. 1'' to 2'' will make less axle wrap then an AAL will on the particular (overload leaf dependent springs) not all spring are there same. And why would shackles cause axle wrap? Do a little research before stating opinions when others are stating facts.

Could be from the tranny or rear end. everything got fluid?

Simple physics dude. you increase the distance from the spring to the axle you increase the lever arm. Blocks are never good.

Agian your stating opinions. A 1" lift block isnt going to cause axle wrap. And a longer shackle doesnt change axle wrap either. At all.
And a transmission thats low on fluid cant cause it either. Thats just rediculous.

You clearly dont understand an overload dependent spring works do you.

All right im not going to get into a flame war here... last post...
Check the fluid for chips. 4th gear might be going out. sometimes the fluid can give you clues. sometimes not.

So far we know the drive angle is fine and we got new springs and shocks. The "vibration" could be something else.

The block and shackle will fix an angle problem which we dont seem to have. I never said anything about your overload dependent springs or the aal, none of that will change whats going on and a block wont change how the overload spring works. You are stating YOUR opinions and sticking words in my mouth. kindly blow it out your ass.

Theres nothing wrong with his transmission buddy. And since everything you said already came out of my butt theres nothing left to blow out of there.
