I'm thinking about upgrading the bulbs in my Hella H4's. I currently have the stock 55/60w Hella supplied bulbs in them right now. However, I'd like to upgrade to a brighter PIAA superwhite.

Would the PIAA superwhites in a 100/110w be too bright for the street?

PIAA doesn't seem to carry anything in the 75w-85w range for the H4 which I originally wanted. They just seem to have the (stock-like) 55/60w range bulbs and then it jumps to the 100/110w for the "off-road" type H4 superwhites. Nothing in between.

Normally, I would think that they would be too bright. However, since they are PIAAs, and the PIAAs I had were noticably dimmer (or not as bright) as the elcheapo ones I got at wallmart, you might be OK. You'll probably get flashed for having your high beams on though.

 

I think actually the silverstars put out more light if you can find them in a H4.

 

You should be fine. Actually PIAA list a odd number. The bulbs are really 60/55W, but according to PIAA give light output equivalent to 110/100. I put some in my girlfriend's Land Rover and they really helped to improve the lights on the vechile.

You might want to go for the extreme whites, as they are a little better.

I second that, I have extreme whites in the heads and corners and really like them.

 

Piaas suck!! So do all those other "high performance" HIDish halogen bulbs like Raybrig, Polarg, etc. You'll spend $90 on a pair of head lamp bulbs that will pop or burn up in three to five months. It ain't worth it. If you want to upgrade your bulbs, go with the Silverstars.

First off you can get them for 40 bucks secondly if they do burn out in 5 months like you say they do then you can take them back cause they have a 2 year warrenty.

 

I've had PIAA in my 03 4Runner for both normal and highbeam (the 9000 series) for over a year with no prob, I put some in my girlFriend's Landy (the H4 bulbs)and they have been in there for over 9 months. All 6 bulbs in total is the Extreme whites and no prob, so maybe you just had a bad experience.

They also made a big difference on the Landy, an improvement on my 4Runner but not as much.
