ID These Parts Please! (Pre-ISR Mod questions)

I found a thread just like this for other motors, but not one for my 3.0 V6. I read up on the ISR Mod but still am not sure exactly what I am supposed to be removing. Can somebody please identify the following circled parts for me?

You're going to be removing everything there except the VAFM (the one in the blue circle). The truck won't run without it. All the other things are silencers and the airbox.

And I have a hard time believing there are a lack of threads about the ISR mod. If anything, there are more threads about the ISR mod for the 3.0 than there are for the 22R-E.

I never said I couldn't find ISR mod info for the 3.0 - I said that I was unable to fit a short-and-simple explanation of each part I have circled in the picture, explaining what it exactly is.

Anybody want to start with what the thing is circled in orange?

I got into an accident and upon receiving my truck back from the body shop, that piece was not screwed back in (the 2 bolts that hold it in are missing). I tried to move it around and figure out what it is, but it didn't seem to open up or anything...

The circled Orange box is the AS valve resonator box.
The AS valve opens during deceleration and allows air to flow into the exhaust and does 2 things, first it keeps exhaust velocity for longer scavange affect, Second it lets O2 in to help the Cat burn cleaner.
You can eliminate it and run the hose directly to airfilter housing, Some just put a small airfilter on right out of the hardline but its noisy.

The red circle is the SRS along with the box under the orange circled box.
The hose that connects to the box under the orange box goes to the AC and power steering idle up, just repipe that to a place before the throttle body and it will work fine.

The blue circle is the Air Flow Meter, Cant get rid of it and don't mess with it.

You basically mean anywhere into the intake pipe, right?

And what is the pink circle all the way towards the bottom? It looks like the end of a megaphone or a horn, and appears to go straight into the back of the headlight...

That is the air intake, Its piped to pull air from behind the headlight because it is cooler them drawing air from inside a hot engine compartment.

Cool guys, thanks for all the info!

So basically I am just yanking everything out except what is circled in blue, and replacing it with an aftermarket pipe and filter...?

More or less.

When I did mine, I left the stock air box (with filter in it) but had already removed the elbow that pulls air in from the fender (the pink circle in your original post).

All you're really doing is removing the two large 3" diameter rubber hoses that run between the VAFM (circled in blue) and the throttle body, as well as the triangular, plastic box that connects them (under the brake master cylinder).

From there, there is a hose that "should" be plumbed between the valve cover gasket to a fitting on the ISR tube (an always open crankcase vent), and one that goes from the hard line closest to the distributor (there are 3 side by side at the front of the engine) to another fitting in the ISR tube.

Lastly, there's a long, thin box that is sandwiched in the air box mounts that connects to one of the large 3" hoses, that can go too.

Here's a couple shots of mine before the 3.4 swap:

This is how your airbox should look when re-installing it:

It may not be obvious now, but when you get in there you'll see what I'm talking about.

So I finally got some pipe and thought it was going to be an easy swap-in. I was planning on just removing the two rubber hoses and the intake silencer box itself, and replacing it with a straight pipe. Once I got in there, though, I realized that second rubber hose (away from throttle body) is a Y-pipe, and if I removed it and put in 1 straight pipe, that other hole would just shoot into the engine bay.

Is the common move here to just remove that box? From what I understand, it sucks air in from around/under/behind the headlight and directs it into the intake...so would removing it negatively effect anything? I have a picture with the piece I am talking about circled in yellow:

That leads to the AC and PS idle up, That leads to a hose up in front of the fuel pressure regulator.
You can eliminate it but you need to run the small hose that is running down under the orange circled box in your first picture to the intake tube before the throttle body.

current version:

of course my egr/pair delete affects how much of the intake pipe and air boxes I can remove

Sorry for bumping an old thread but I haven't got around to doing this yet but have some free time coming up and planned on it.

bone collector I do not have the option to quote you, but your second pic is what I wanted to do - basically just eliminate the intake silencer itself (which is circled in red in my OP) and nothing else.

This should yield the same results as doing anything else, right? Since the "mod" specifically refers to removing the intake silencer because it is the restrictive part? Removing other items is just a "bonus" to clean up the engine bay or whatever, correct?
