locating leak... any help?

ive got a 91 4runner with the 3vze and for the life of me cant find where exactly its leaking from. where ever its leaking is somehow making contact with the fan and slinging it all over the front of the engine, hood, etc. so its really hard to pin-point. ive had it off the road for a couple of months now because of a few different problems but before i parked it i noticed a leak from the tranny cooler lines that run to the radiator where a hole had been worn in one of them. Do you think maybe the small leak from it could have been blowing up to the front of the engine and hitting the fan causing it to sling everywhere, or do you think theres another place its possibly leaking that could reach the fan? Any help or ideas are appreciated.

You will never find any engine leak until the engine is sparkling clean. Just get some spray-on engine cleaner and a garden hose. If you've let it go for a while you might need a brush.

Then just start the engine and look! The place where you see oil (or coolant or whatever) is where it is leaking.
