so the other day I shut my truck off and went into the store. came back out and it wouldn't start with all the symptoms of a dead battery. so pulled out the jumper cables got jumped and drove back to my house were I parked her. tried to start here again and she was dead. let her sit till the morning and still dead. got jumped again and she ran for about a min but when I went to pull away from the house she puttered and stalled out. pulled alternator and battery out and had them tested. both failed with the alternator being the voltage regulator. so I cleaned the connections and replaced both. I went to start her up and she had a lot more power but no crank. you can here the solenoid on the starter click and the computer click down by the passenger floor board but no crank. any suggestions?

Pull out the multimeter and measure battery voltage while someone turns it over. You need to find out first if your charging system and battery are doing their job. If battery falls below 10 volts, I'd be worried the alternator is DOA or the battery is now bad from being drained (I wasn't sure if you replaced alternator AND Batt, or alternator AND regulator). Batteries will go bad after too many deep discharges.

If voltage stays good, then I would suspect a bad starter. Also check all grounds on the alternator and engine block. A bad 8 gauge wire worn halfway through can cripple the ability of a starter to turn over. I know -- it's happened to me. Good luck!

So I pulled the starter out and went and had it tested and it passed. I then looked at the guy and had him do it two more times. I've taken a look at all the connections and my ground wire and all seems normal. I'm stumped, could it be a relay?
