87 pickup 22r, sputters, lack of power, an backfiring at the carb!

So a cpl weeks ago on my way home from work I was going to get gas cause I was low but just before ibgot there I ran out of gas. Gf came gave me gas then it wasn't enough so ibran out again then it all started. The truck started both times but ran very poor once I would get past 1/3 throttle is will sputter an loose power then start backfiring. So I think ive narrowed it to the fuel pump or carb idk me an my brother are stumped an he's an auto tech he's just not use to working on such old rigs lol

Replaced
Cap
Rotor
Spark plugs/wires
Fuel filter
Compression. Test 150+ on all cylinders

So any suggestions? O an we replaced the carb gaskets that the carb sits on an under the base block thing. Any help would really help an yes I do have a manual but come on chiltons suck!!!

Going dry enabled it to suck up some junk from the bottom of the tank. Fill it to half way with good 91 or better gas, maybe a little seafoam in the tank. At the least, itll clean it out.

Since you ran the fuel in the carburetor dry, check the fuel level in the carburetor bowl when the engine is running. The float needle may have become lodged and is not moving freely to control fuel level.

So I filled my tank up halfway an put seafoam in it an no difference. Tryed takin my catalytic covertor off to see if it made a differance an it didn't. Timing seems to be right too I'm getting stumped.

Also the level on the looking glass seems to be right in the middle even when its sputtering. A buddy of mine thinks many it the high idle jets?

Also what is the egr valve hose thing that's under my carb? It was never hooked up when I bought it bit my dad said I needed it hooked up so we jimmied one on there ill post some pics too to help.

I just watched your video. you have missing emissions pieces on your truck. there is a large vacuum hose (big enough to stick your finger in) that is right by the carb and pointing at the fender, it leads to a resonator and I believe the pair valve. that is why it is popping. get a manual and find out what else is missing and replace it. good luck

So I've pulled the tank an it looked good pulled the filter gonna replace it today then blow all the lines out. Then the whole fuel system will be flushed an refreshed an if I still have problems I can rule out the fuel system. So far I've replaced fuel filter in the tank the inline filter the fuel pump and the carburetor. So well see how she does tonight after I blow the lines.

For some reason I think its my valves not seating right an blowing back to the intake???? Just had an idea

Was this was ever solved??

I have an 87 4wd with a 22R I bought the motor from Oregon Engine Rebuilders, and put a brand new Weber 32/36 on it at the same time. I can't say that it has ever ran fantastic since. But it's recently started doing this sputtering and back firing when accelerating. So I brought it to someone new who installed the adjustable cam gear from LCE to get the timing marks to line up. So it's in time now, still doing it. The guy that's been working on it has tried different jets, he installed an electric fuel pump with fuel pressure regulator, still doing it. I did see some dirt in the carburetor fuel bowl when he was messing with that.
please help! I'm about to run it off of a cliff or sell it and I don't want to do either!

Anyone found a solution to this, my 85 engine is doing the same thing. I figured it was timing or fuel related, testing one thing at a time because I don’t want to throw parts at it.
