89 toyota pickup bad oil cap

hey there,

i posted on here awhile back about white smoke out my exhaust, but there being no other signs. im finally getting around to fixing it and paying a guy to come help me with it.. upon further inspection today i noticed that the oil cap had a big " S " on it.. i took it off knowing thats not whats suppose to be there, it screws on, but has no seal around the base like its suppose to. my question is would having this cap cause a false positive on a headgasket leak? i really dont want to waste the money on a headgasket job if its as simple as changing the oil and putting the correct cap on (which i have already picked up). i know its a long shot but im broke and dont want to waste any money i dont have to.

Thanks in advance.
edit - it started up when i moved back to washington state ( high humidity in the air ) if that has anything to do with it.

Short answer no...

Having the wrong oil cap on would only create a vaccum leak. Is your truck ideling weird?

However, if it screws on...then I doubt it would cause much issue with vaccum since it's sealing on the threads.

Make sure you do some work before doing the head gasket...Coolant pressure test and a compression test are in order.
