Cool 93 Pickup 3.0 to 2000 4Runner 3.4

Hi Guys! I am new to this forum and must say that there is a lot of great information out there.

Now down to the rat killing! I have a 1993 pickup 4X4 3.0 5-spd that I am going to swap in a 2000 4Runner 3.4. The 4 Runner is a 4X2 with an auto. I got a good deal on the 4Runner. It was a rollover but still runs and drives. The engine has 162k miles but it compression tests to between 135 and 140 pounds on all 6 cylinders. I gave $800 for the whole thing.

I plan on using the 5-spd from my pickup. I have read several of the threads and have just a couple questions. The mechanical swap seems pretty straightforward. I have seen both opinions on using the 3.0 flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate. I will probably go that route since I don't have the clutch assembly for the 4Runner. The exhaust shouldn't be too much trouble. I have a good die grinder, sawzall, and mig welder. The wiring will be a bit of a headache. From what I have read, I will need an ECU for a manual 4Runner, correct? How much difference is there in the operation of the auto ECU and the manual ECU? I'm trying to get away as cheap as possible.

Also, has anyone tried to integrate the cruise control into an older truck? I would love to be able to put cruise on my little pickup.

Welcome to Yotatech!

I am doing a swap the same as yours. PM me if you need any help. It seems like you already have most of what you need. I'm sure someone can answer your question about adding cruise control.

From everything I gather, you can use the auto ECU with no problems. All you'll have to to is bypass the NSW (neutral start switch), which will make more sense once you're balls deep in the wiring.

Also, I don't believe anyone here that has done their own wiring has successfully added cruise control back. It's certainly not well documented if so. HOWEVER, having said that, I just a universal Rostra kit in my zero option Corolla a few months ago and it works like a boss! It comes with every connector known to man and can be configured for any type motor/trans/make/model.

I do believe I have wired my cruise correctly and have just acquired all the motor and cables I need to hook it back up, so I will definitely make a new thread about that when it happens.

Good luck and welcome to YT.
