22R knocks when warm ?

Just changed the oil / filter in my 84 and now have a knock when engine warms up ? didn't do it before, seems to go away at higher RPM than idle. Coincidence that something failed ? starts fine and seems to run fine. Help !

What oil filter did you use? It's super important to use oem on our 22Rs as some filters have really crappy antidrainback valves. Although your knocking isn't an issue when cold? Odd... did you happen to use an oversize filter? Gotta stick with the small, oem size, filters to keep the right oil pressure in our fragile little 4 bangers. I had an oversize filter on my 22R for about two weeks with noticeable chain and rod noise. It went away when I took it off and went back to oem. But mine was more noticeable when cold...

x2 on what saltandgranite said. I know that the Ford 5.4L's are VERY particular to OEM filters being used. Otherwise there tends to be funny issues.

Interesting point guys and that makes me think... I put in a Wixs filter{ checked the # a couple times} and whats funyy is the one I took off was a lot bigger and seemed to be from a Oil changer type place [generic with a bunch off cross references on it] that is wahat made me double check the filter I picked up. Could it in fact need a upgradeed / over sized filter ?

Chances are they didn't have to right one and found one that had the same threads and oring width. We do it all the time for certain stuff. Go to your Local NAPA auto parts and get yourself a #1348 filter
