Hi everyone, I recently purchased an 89 Toyota pick up 4x4, was too good of a deal to pass up but now I've stumbled on a problem I have never dealt with before.

please if any one has any suggestions, experience, or if anyone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

so Coming home from work, going around 45mph, my truck started to shake/ wobble, very much like the jeep thing.

This happened a few weeks ago but it only lasted one short drive and it fixxed itself the next time i drove it.

but this time it's not the same, I drove slowly home the rest of the way then as I was turning into my parking spot I heard a "THUNK" went outside to see what it was and a large marble sized ball had came out of the front passenger side. I don't know what it is and i'm trying to attatch the picture i took of it. now my truck drives terribly and when i turn the wheel i hear a clicking sound and the truck moves up and down...

I've never had this problem before, if some one has please help!
it happened an hour or 2 ago (late at night) so i haven't gone to a mechanic yet, this site has never let me down in the past so I figured this is the best place to start!

 

Need an exact size of the bearing, or something to put it in scale. Only place I can think of that would have a "marble ball" size bearing is a CV joint. Check if the rubber boots are intact on the CV joints.

 

That's correct, it did come out of the CV joint, the rubber boots are not attached.

 

looking at the size of the ball from the bearing, compared to the print on the wally world bag, i would agree with TN, i think it could be a cv axle bearing.
have you jacked the truck up and investigated yet? jack both sides of the front end, lock the hubs and turn the wheel/s and see what you come up with.
one thing for sure is that is a ball from a bearing, you just have to find where it came from.

CV's are pretty simple to replace when you know the tricks. Is this something you want to take on or would you have it done? I've changed my CV's about 10 times over the years so if you want to do it yourself let me know and I'll give you a hand - I live in Chandler.

 

So you think replacing the cv might be the problem? If you say it's a simple job then I wouldn't mind doing it. About how much would the replacement part cost?

 

Well I work at AutoZone and last time I checked they are about $60 dollars each. You can
get a brand new axle for a little more maybe close to $70 or the re-manufactured are just as good. Life time warranty on either one so you really cant go wrong. I'm not trying to sales pitch, just offering my knowledge as I deal auto parts

Unless you have manual hubs, the front axle is spinning at all times even when you're not in 4WD. Replacing the bad part should fix the issue.

The CV is an complete assembly, so its just one part - the reman's are $60 plus core at Autozone.
