Toyota fuel filters good for life??

I just added to my post about changing the fuel filter on my truck:

This is the link to it: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f16/how-change-fuel-filter-2-7l-tacoma-24364/

However, I thought since the title was "How to change a filter on a 2.7L" many might not read it.

I used a hack saw to cut my old one in half. I thought there might be some white in the filter. I was wrong. This thing was filthy. If you don't think you need to replace your fuel filter, maybe this will change your mind:

People always debate the need to change the fuel filter on these rigs. After that pic, I'm sure glad I changed mine.

Guess I'll put that on my list of things to do at 50-60k.

Nasty. That's the cheapest thing you can do to extend the life of your engine. I think its worth the $5 each time to prevent thousands in engine damage.

I've been setting up a spreadsheet to track the maint. on my yota, i was curious about the fuel filter interval because the manual states nothing, what would you guys recommend to set the mileage at for the filter change?

thanks

You use a hacksaw? That must've taken a while. I would've just used a 14" chop saw and got it done right quick.

I cut through it after about a minute of sawing. A hacksaw was all I had. The filter metal is very thin. The toughest part was getting the blade started.

I'm so glad I got that thing replaced. The 2.7L is a pain, but its gotta be done. Next time, I think I can do it much faster now that I know how to approach it. I bought some BG 44K fuel cleaner pretty cheap on eBay yesterday. I'm going to run some of that through it for good measure. I've never used it, but I've heard it is good stuff.
