Check Engine Light Troubles

I'm trying to pull the codes off my 94 toyota pickup, but when I hook the wire up to Terminals E1 and TE1 in the diagnositc box and turn my key over, the check engine light just blinks continuously. I've tried to turn it off and do it again, but it doens't fix it. There is no way for me to read the codes with it blinking continuously like that. Any suggestions on how to reset it or something to that extent? Any help would be greatly appreciated, as usual!

You don't "turn your key over" or start the engine. Just turn it to on, if it continually flashes on off it means there are no stored codes.

Do you have a check engine light when running? Why are you trying to pull codes?

Yes, I understand that I'm not supposed to turn the engine over, just turn it to the "on" position. I was trying to pull the codes because I thought I had some stored, but I guess not. To answer your other question, no I don't have the check engine light on when I'm driving, although awhile back the light came on and then turned off. I guess it fixed itself. Thank you for your responses!

Codes 51 and 53 don't get stored in the computer. 53 is the most likely case, knock signal not detected.
