I have a tacoma with a check engine light on, I plug the genisys scan tool and it dont communicate with it. Is there a common problem to check for that causes it?

 

Try another scanner. My 95.5 with the 3.4 communicates with scanners ok. Are all the pins in the plug straight and wires tight?

Search Habanero's build thread as she had a problem communicating to the state scanner on her 96 w/ 3.4, I believe.

 

Not sure about 99.5, but the 96+ OBDII trucks have a 7.5A "OBD" fuse in the engine room fusebox you should check (if you have it).

 

I figured it out, I was putting 95 as the year in the scan tool it wouldn't work. I changed it to 96 and it worked, the truck is really a 95.5.
