Is this a good ideal to try and swap my 86 4wd cab ont a 88 4runner frame, or should I just find a truck frame?

 

It all depends on just how much work you want to do.

I am not 100% sure and I would have to look but I think the 4Runner has different body mount locations.

All the major things should be the same just the little things that need moved.

Why go to all the trouble just find another truck. You will be hard pressed to find another frame unless it is no big deal to get to the southwest and back on someones nickle but yours.

 

If thats all the difference is the body mounts id have no problem relocating them. What I have is a 86 efi truck complete cab and doghouse fenders,bumper, everything. My buddy is parting out his running 88 4 runner and offered to sell me complete rolling chassis with the efi engine still on frame. would this be an okay swap. Ill make a custom bed for it. If you are only using the cab and not the factory bed all you should need to do is move the rear cab mounts forward a bit. Front two sets of mounts should be the same on pickup and 4runner.

 

^^^ Assuming you have a regular cab not an extended cab.

 

The quickest way to identify a truck frame from 4Runner frame is the truck frame has two post on each side for the front of the bed. The post are about 5 inches long. The body bolts by the radator and by the kick panels where your fuse box and ECU is at would work after that I am not sure that they would line up.

Not the best example but to show the difference. Looking to the rear of the frame no post. This the 4Runner frame.


Here is the post I am talking about on a truck frame, the in tank fuel filter for carbed motors beside it. The PO cut the front post off of this frame, but to show the differences. For a better reference, compare where the the front spring perches are and that will give you a better idea as well.
