Wondering about installing an oil cooler.

Hi guys, been a while since I've logged on. Anyways, I finally have my little 82 22r block up and running after a year of moving around and tedious job hunt, and found some time to work on this thing and got it running pretty smooth. My main question is: Would installing an external oil cooler make the engine run easier and prolong life? I've done a bit of reading and found a little information about oil coolers and noted that they can help but not in noticeable amounts. I've been playing with the idea of either scrapping around a junk yard for one or buying a cheap kit and I just wanted to know if anyone has any ideas or information on the subject.
