Cleaning The Aftermath

On Saturday, I was out at Sugarloaf, which was flooded in some areas. I had been searching for my brother who was stranded in his Trooper. I had to cross some water which was deeper than I had anticipated. Giving all credit to God, my truck did not die when the water came up to my door handles and flooded my engine compartment. Now I need to know what you guys recommend that I clean to make sure my 4runner keeps running.

I would start by checking ALL of your fluids and replacing anything that got contaminated with water- trans/t-case fluid, engine oil, diff gear oil. Also, clean out and replace the grease in your hubs. I would probably pressure wash the entire undercarriage and engine bay as well, just to get all of the sand and grit out of the nooks and crannies before the summer heat bakes it on.

^^yup, that's about it. From what I've learned from my yotas, don't focus much on the panels, they can wait until last. Focus on the little bends and seams. Especially cab corners, under the fenders, those water channels under the cab doors, and the firewall infront of the floor boards...and especially since you have a runner, around the rear quarters.

Check all the fluids, grease all the zerks, make sure your cap and rotor and plugs aren't still wet or they will corrode and be a PITA to work with.

Agree to all above advise. If water made its way in to the truck you may want to take out the rug and let dry. Check for mold and water stains as they can lead to mold.

I blame your brother. And the trooper.

Id beat the snot out of him. And the trooper.

Then Id make him change all the fluids. And burn the trooper.

Sad thing is...now you have drown her...stuff can occur randomly as a result
of getting water where water should never go. So beat your brother anytime
anything else goes wrong as well.
