Okay something is wrong with my tranny. I'm unsure which trans is in my truck but I do know its a five speed lol. I will check tomorrow to see exactly what one I have.

Anyways for quite some time now my truck has been grinding a little Everytime is shift to 2nd gear... So yeah I figured it was the synchronizer so I really didn't worry to much. Well now my grinding disappeared and now I have a very loud whining when I'm in 2nd gear and let off the clutch. It would prob be cheaper to find one at a junkyard if you can find a good one than to have it rebuilt unless you have messed with the insides of a manual tranny before.i have rebuilt a few eaton fuller trans from semis an they aren't too bad to do since everything is so big inside them and parts are easy to find.have you drained any oil out of it yet to look for metal or brass in it?

 

It sounds like a bad bearing but you would hear the sound in other gears as well so my guess is the gear for 2nd is a trashed and with it not having the full contact area on the teeth of the gear it meshes with or with the teeth of the gear being worn at a taper its producing the sound

 

I haven't drained any oil out of it. A buddy of mine has a 94 parts truck with a good tranny so yeah I'd probly just grab that from him. I'm deffintly not rebuilding or purchasing new

 

I still haven't figured out my tranny but I know it's about shot. When I run 3rd gear it knocks extremely loud. Sounds like a engine knocking lol.

So.... Can u use a 2wd tranny for these trucks. I got a good 87 2wd 5spd is it swappable

 

From what I have found, there are interchangeable parts between 2 & 4wd, but I don't think the entire thing is interchangeable. You can't just take the tail housing off the 2wd and throw on a t-case. But I could have received bad info and I could be totally wrong about it...

You should have a W56-B, or C. Check Marlincrawler.com for tranny/year guide.

 

You need a 4wd trans if you don't have the knowledge to tear down a trans and swap parts if they're swappable. I don't know off hand if you could swap the tailhousing and output shaft on a 2wd and make it a 4wd trans.

 

Finally got a new tranny today. Well new to me lol. I got a 5 spd that was in a 1994 pickup 22re of coarse. I am unaware what tranny it is tho. I got the tranny and transfer case for 200.00 bucks at a local salvage yard. Comes with a 5000 mile warranty to. Hopefully I don't have to use that. I'm guessing that I got a heck of a deal because everyone else that I have talked to days those things sell for around 500. This tranny only has 72000 miles on it to. It took those guys about 2 hours to pull the trans out. I just sit back and watched. Kinda laughing to be honest. It only takes me about 30 mins to completely drop my tranny and about 1.5 to put it back. That's by myself. Probably a lil quicker with help. But anyways ima drop it in a couple days and I will let you all no how it does.
On a side note how exactly do you identify a tranny when its already pulled. Is there a tag on it somewhere. Just curios. I'd like to know which tranny it is prior to swapping it in.
