Head Gasket Question. ( NOT A TYPICAL Q)

So last night I started tearing my old engine down and noticed that the head gasket wasn't stamped for the coolant passages on the inside between the cylinders. dont know why I've never noticed this before. has anybody else noticed this? Is this normal? Kinda curious if this is why my truck had over heating issues...

Pics would be helpful. But I have seen this on cheaper, off-brand gaskets on other vehicles. It could definitely contribute to hot spots on the head and poor circulation throughout.
