timing belt troubleshooting

can a timing belt being extremely worn down or one of the bearings in the idler pulley cause a massive loss of power?? i was on the highway yesterday and it felt like my timing belt snapped, the idle got even rougher than it was a couple days prior and i can put the pedel to the floor and it only gets up to 1000rpm's after a couple seconds of build up. its on a 92 yota pickup SR5 4wd 190k 5 speed any suggestions are a huge help

If the belt breaks, it just won't run. I guess it's possible to slip a couple teeth and run like crap, but generally speaking, timing belts shear off teeth or break entirely. Check your timing mark alignment before you disassemble everything, only to possibly find it not the cause of your issues...

yea it just felt like my timing belt snapped it was as soon as i put it in 5th gear. im sure theres some other underlying problem but the noise i hear and have put a stethescope to is coming directly from the right side of the timing cover/ distributor area. in the last 3 days, ive changed out the alternator, distributor, cap, rotor, plugs and wires. yesterday when i did the plugs and wires the loss of power was better but still present. it idles at 200rpms now and runs extremely rough, as soon as i put it in gear and start to let the clutch out it dies- thanks for the input if u can think of anything else or anything that you want to know about my truck that might help give a diagnosis let me know
