I am having to replace brakes and rotors for 2nd time in 6 months. I have seen in a couple places that you can do a tundra brake mod, but in looking to the new calibers and rotors nothing i can find will mount the same as the current ones. this is a 1998 T-100

 

2WD or 4WD?

I believe the big brake mod is fer the 4WD setup.

Why are you replacing yer rotors and pads so quickly? Are yer brakes sticking? Are you using aftermarket or OEM parts? Are you in a mountainous area?

 

I really want better brakes. But noone ever responds to my posts about them. Let me know what you find out.

 

It is a 4wd. I am pulling a trailer almost everyday and have the bed of it loaded pretty much full time. I have just bought all need bearings, hubs, and going to get new rotors, calipers, and pads. I did not replace the pads and rotors last time with OEM ones, but all the parts I've gotten so far came from toyotapartsoverstock.com. The pads may be sticking on the old calipers but I do not want to put all the money into this to find out that is not the problem. I do not know if i am going to get OEM calipers because they are almost $500.00 a piece everywhere I have found them. The truck does have over 265,000 miles on it with pretty much all original parts on it.

the 2001 tundra caliper bolt holes are about 1.5-1.75 inches wider than the ones for the 1998 t100 so it will not bolt right on like that like says. i have had them side by side.

 

Have you thought about installing active cooling fer yer brakes...kinda like what some racers do fer their setups?

If you do go with this blower setup, make sure you use a relay to control the power so you don't burn up yer switch.

Thinking of installing the ebc dimpled and slot rotors with the 4000 series ebc yellow pads. Anyone have suggestions on rotors and pads. Also need new calipers any suggestions on those not doing oem theu are almost $500.00 each.

 

Why don't you just rebuild your exisitng rotors..I believe they have kits with new seals, etc. It would be a lot cheaper than new OEM ones, and will give you the same end result of buying reman units.

 

I'm running powerslot rotors on my truck. Have been for about 2000 miles so far and I'm really happy with them so far. Of course, I took the factory original rotors off which were still good, just not keeping up with my braking habits when driving in the mountains.

 

I would feel more comfortable with getting calipers from somewhere as opposed to me rebuilding mine. just looking for suggestions on different calipers.

 

does'nt make yota sense that they are smaller and don't interchange.

thats one reason why i like toyota, common sense engineering.

maybe you T100 guys could swap the spindle from a pu,runner or tundra?

i know the axles interchange between pu and runners.

i found 95 v6 calipers and fresh rotors for $60 iirc.

just an idea anyway.
